Computing
Computing Curriculum
We use the KAPOW Primary scheme of learning for Computing.
The scheme is categorised into five key areas:
- Computing systems and networks
- Programming
- Creating media
- Data handling
- Online safety
We return to these key areas each year, building on prior learning.
Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work has been designed as a spiral curriculum with the following key principles in mind:
Cyclical: Pupils revisit the five key areas throughout KS1 and KS2.
Increasing depth: Each time a key area is revisited, it is covered with greater complexity.
Prior knowledge: Upon returning to each key area, prior knowledge is utilised so pupils can build on previous foundations, rather than starting again.
The long-term overview shows the units taught for each phase of school.

Online safety - ProjectEVOLVE
We use Project Evolve to support us in delivering the requirements of the UKCIS framework "Education for a Connected World". This framework covers knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes across eight strands of our online lives from early years right through to eighteen. Project Evolve provides weekly scenarios relating to online safety which are discussed during Computing Lessons. This aims to provide children with online safety messages that they can reflect on. The resources aim to provide children with the opportunity to discuss based on appropriate questions accompanied by honest and useful information to shape thinking and challenge misconceptions around online safety.
